These are the BEST air fryer green beans and so easy to make. They’re topped with garlicky parmesan breadcrumbs, and are the perfect side dish to any of your favorite meals.

If you’re looking for an easy side dish to go with a simple chicken and rice or salmon dinner, look no further than these simple air fryer green beans. They’re crispy, so easy to make, topped with parmesan breadcrumbs and have so much more flavor than you’d expect for such a simple dish!

I also love these as a simple snack when I’m craving something fresh but healthy. This is also such a versatile recipe, you can add in any other herbs you like such as chives, parsley etc. I also love lemon zest or adding in some red pepper flakes for spice- feel free to get creative! If you love this recipe, try my air fryer brussels sprouts next!

Tips before we get cooking!

  • If you prefer, you can swap the olive oil with melted butter for a slightly richer flavor. I suggest unsalted here but if you use salted, just decrease the added salt.
  • Be sure to use fresh green beans here- not frozen! The seasonings won’t stick as well to frozen and they won’t cook the same way.
  • If you’re washing the beans right before cooking, make sure you dry them thoroughly and get all the water off. Otherwise, they will kind of just steam and you won’t get the same crispy texture.

How to make air fryer green beans

Preheat the air fryer to 400 Fahrenheit. Make sure the ends of the green beans are trimmed off, then add to a large bowl with the olive oil, salt and pepper. Toss to combine.

Add to your air fryer basket- I like to line mine with parchment paper liners to make for easier clean up. Air fry for 7 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a small dish, mix together the breadcrumbs, parmesan, garlic, paprika, onion powder and parsley.

After the 7 minutes, give the green beans a toss, then add on the breadcrumb mixture and toss again. Air fry an additional 2-3 minutes at 400.

Serve with a squeeze of fresh lemon if desired and enjoy! Try my air fryer carrots next!

Ingredient tips

You can use any kind of fresh green beans in this recipe, but my personal favorites are French green beans, or haricots verts. They have a slightly sweeter flavor than other types and usually come pre-trimmed.

I like using freshly grated parmesan because it doesn’t have any anti-caking additives like some pre-grated varieties do so it will melt more easily and evenly.

How to store

In the fridge. Refrigerate these air fryer green beans in an air tight container for 3-4 days. However, they are definitely best served fresh if you want to maintain the crispy texture.

To Reheat. Reheat any leftovers in the air fryer at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 3-4 minutes or until warm and crispy.

To Freeze. Unfortunately, these green beans will get mushy once thawed and the crispiness won’t keep, so I don’t recommend freezing them after cooking them.

Serving suggestions

As an appetizer: Serve them exactly as is as a simple appetizer! If you can find really small brussels sprouts, you can air fry them whole which makes them a bit easier to serve as an app.

As a side: I love serving these alongside some crispy tofu, lemon pepper salmon, or simple grilled chicken with rice.
