This healthy vegan vanilla milkshake is the perfect easy recipe to satisfy your sweet tooth. It’s refined sugar free, incredibly creamy but entirely dairy free!
A healthy vegan milkshake without ice cream? Yes, it can be done!! I already have my chocolate oreo version, but vanilla is my forever favorite.
This recipe tastes super rich and indulgent, but is actually incredibly light and healthy. You can easily make it chocolate flavored, add strawberry, peanut butter or oreo or just leave as is!
A traditional vegan milkshake is made out of vegan ice cream and milk, plus other flavorings like peanut butter, cocoa or vanilla.
But for this healthy recipe, all you need is 4 key ingredients and about 5 minutes to make! It’s made with a base of frozen banana, cauliflower (trust me, it’s good), coconut milk, stevia and vanilla.

Key ingredients
Banana. Frozen banana makes up the base of this healthy vegan milkshake, but I promise there isn’t actually a strong banana flavor. It makes it creamy and sweet without the need for added sugar.
Cauliflower. Weird, I know. But when you steam then freeze cauliflower and add it to any smoothie or milkshake, it truly makes it so much creamy.
You won’t taste it at all and it’s such a great way to sneak some more veggies into your diet.
Coconut Milk. I like using canned coconut milk to create a richer flavor and creamier texture, but you can easily swap for regular non-dairy milk.
Stevia. I wanted to keep this recipe refined sugar free, but to give it a more classic milkshake flavor, it does need a sweetener beyond just the bananas. I like using stevia, but whatever you have will be fine.
You can use regular sugar, maple syrup or just leave the bananas to add natural sweetness.
Vanilla & Salt. Vanilla, of course, and a little pinch of salt really helps to round of the flavors.
How to make a vegan milkshake
STEP 1: Add all ingredients to a high speed blender.
STEP 2: Blend until completely smooth, adding more liquid as needed to thin it out. Taste and adjust flavors as desired.
STEP 3: To make the chocolate rim, melt 1/2 cup of chocolate chips with 1 tsp of coconut oil over a double boiler.
STEP 4: Dip the top of your glass into the melted then slightly cooled chocolate, letting it drip down the sides. Add sprinkles, then place in the fridge to set.
STEP 5: Pour the milkshake into the prepped glasses, then top with whipped cream or enjoy as is!
Make it high protein!
I like adding a scoop of vegan vanilla protein powder instead of the stevia sometimes. It adds an extra rich vanilla flavor and obviously boosts the protein content.
How to thicken a milkshake
As written, this healthy vegan milkshake is fairly thick. If you want it thicker, you can either use less milk, or add more frozen banana. It does melt fairly quickly, so I recommend keeping it on the thick side for best results.
Is whipped cream vegan?
Traditional whipped cream is made with milk, so it’s not vegan but I love coconut whip for a dairy free alternative.
You can also find oat based whipped cream that comes in a can, but my personal favorite is the tubs of coco whip which you can find in the frozen section at most grocery stores.
