I love a good apple pie as much as the next person, but they’re definitely labor intensive and time consuming. I wanted to bring you a fall recipe that has all the same flavors and textures as the filling of apple pie, just without the hassle!

These air fryer apples are SO easy to make, vegan friendly, and sweetened with just pure maple syrup. We’ll be using spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves for all that delicious apple pie flavor. Plus, we’ll get your kitchen smelling like a bakery. Win-win!

You can enjoy these on top of your morning oatmeal or yogurt with my vegan pumpkin spice latte on the side for the ultimate Fall breakfast! If you love this recipe, try my gluten free apple crisp or apple cider sangria next!

How to make maple air fryer apples

Step 1. Peel and dice the apples and to a mixing bowl. You don’t have to peel the apples if you don’t want to, but I do think it makes the texture a bit smoother and better.

Step 2. Melt the butter in a small dish, then whisk in the maple syrup, vanilla, spices and salt.

Step 3. Add 2 tablespoons of the mixture to the apples and toss to combine.

Step 4. Air fry at 370 for 10 minutes. At the halfway point, toss with 1 more tablespoon of the maple mixture.

Step 5. When done, toss with the remaining maple mixture. They should be soft when pierced with a fork.

Serving suggestions

I love having these air fryer apples just with some vanilla ice cream as a simple, quick and lighter dessert. It kind of has an apple pie flavor but without the hassle and with far fewer ingredients!

You can also try them with oatmeal, on top of my gluten free waffles or oat flour pancakes.

Do they keep?

Yes! They will store in the fridge for about 3 days. You can double or triple the batch, keep them in the fridge, then reheat when you’re ready to serve or even just enjoy them cold!

Ingredient swaps

Apples. You can’t have air fryer apples without apples, but see below for my favorite apple varieties. You can play around to change up the overall texture and flavor of the dish.

Maple syrup. I think maple syrup works best here and it pairs really well with the cinnamon and other spices, but you can certainly use honey, coconut sugar or brown sugar if that’s what you have.

Butter. I love the richness of flavor that butter adds and it gives more of that apple pie flavor, but you can swap for coconut oil if you want a dairy free option. I don’t recommend olive oil here.

Spices. I used mostly cinnamon, then some nutmeg, ginger, and cloves, but you can play around with proportions and find your favorite combination.

Favorite kind of apples

Honeycrisp apples are my favorite for just about everything. They tend to be pricier, so you can also try pink lady or gala. A green apple like granny smith will also work, but they tend to be sour (which I actually love) so just keep that in mind!
